Thai Inspired Lunch

Last weekend was a do nothing, lounge around in pj's type weekend. The pouring rain kept us indoors with nothing much to do but watch movies and eat! I decided to get around to those egg rolls I've been intending to make and whipped up some green chicken curry for dinner. I picked up some small packets of curry from my trip to Thailand (and now I wish I stockpiled more.) The curries have all natural ingredients and very pungent. I added coconut milk and more fish sauce along with the packet and wa la - chicken and veggie green curry. It was tasty but much better the next day when I added more water to make it soupy and boiled up some rice noodles. The end result was a Thai curry noodle soup that was reminiscent of a dish I had in Bangkok. I fried up the egg rolls I froze and with the humidity from the end of the rain, it felt very Thai indeed.

Did you know that most Thai food is eaten with a spoon? Chopsticks are mainly used for Chinese food in Thailand.

I used my mom's egg roll recipe, but wished that I added a touch more oyster sauce and less vermcelli noodles.

Beef Stew with Parmesan Crusted Breead

Yes my friends, this one did taste as good as it looks. Beef stew with roasted garlic/parmesan crusted bread. The beef stew wa good and hearty, the only problem is that we didn't use beef stew meat so it did not hold the typical beefy texture. There were mushrooms, onions, carrots etc.... It was delicious!

Catch up Post

So I know that we don't post often, but it doesn't mean that we aren't gathering material. Although we work at tech companies, we don't really spend much time on the computer outside of work. I actually prefer to leave my computer in my work bag until the next day. So here's a make-up post to share some of the memorable dishes that we've had.

We had R pop over for dinner one night and didn't prepare anything fancy. We had planned to have clam soup for dinner and I added some egg & pork to it to add more depth to the soup.

With left over cornbread from K&D's Ragin' Cajun party, I made a corn, jalapeno & cornbread casserole. The picture doesn't look very appetizing, but it was actually pretty tasty, even when cold the next day!

Have you ever made fried rice with brown rice? You should totally do it! It offers a nutty taste that you can't get with white rice and separates a lot better. We add spam to it of course ;)

I like making my own wontons because I hate the overdose of sesame oil that most restaurants add to their horrendous wontons. This is the fried version of the wontons but I also made soup wontons (wrapped differently) that we added to egg noodles for homemade wonton noodle soup for dinner.

When I was in India, Tim hosted a dinner party for some friends at the pad. They feasted on grilled salmon, fingerling potatoes, sugar snap peas, and vanilla ice cream with berries and fried wonton wrappers drizzled with honey & salt.

Bad food in Mendocino

So here is a story of the worst 150 dollars ever spent. This restaurant known as St. orress in Gualala, ca(middle of nowhere)
produced one of the oddest meals i have ever had.

Starters $15/piece
The mushroom ravioloi(their signature dish that the waiters have to fight over............right...............) this dish was o.k
The crab cakes (Honestly I would have to say the Van Kamps fish sticks are a bit better). Zero stars for the taste and 5 stars for the nice squiggly designs on the plates.

Prix Fixe Menu 45 bucks
Hot fennel soup (Safeway soup will smash on this crap).
The worst thing of all was after serving us our appetizers and soup, they gave us this watermelon aruguale goatcheese
thing. This think looked great, but then after eating all these different hot/cold items and 7 wineries, this cooling effect the watermelon gave us made us want to puke. Both of went to the restoom after this but luckily nothing bad happened. However ,
flushing these toilets were extremely weird. They have a tubes that go along te back of the toilet and a big white porcelain box.
We then found out after much investigation that u must pull this giant lever to flush the toilet(made me wanna puke even more).
We come back to our seats and we get ready for our entrees. She got filet mignon and i got lamb. Both were overcooked and lacked much flavor. I returned my dish. The worst thing is that the chef pairs her meat entrees with carrots, baby tomatoes, eggplant, and corn bits. This was not a vegetarian dish. I don't think there could be a worst combination of food here. At least give me a slop of garlic maches potatoes or some type of rissotto.

We both had about two bites of our food and the rest went into a brown bax that was heated the next morning for breakfast.
Got the bill, paid 150 bucks and never felt so happy to leave this shithole.
