There's no place like home...

We just got back from a road trip to Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver. The trip was a blast... but I was so looking forward to being able to sleep in my own bed, use my own shower, and pick something to wear from my closet. I know you feel me here. I would have to say that I live out of a suitcase or overnight bag pretty often - at least two weekends a month I'm usually sleeping somewhere else besides my apartment. Although it's fun to explore new places and to visit people, sometimes I wish I were just at home so that I could walk into my kitchen and grab some OJ or cook up some kimchee ramen just because I feel like it. We'll be posting pics of the tri-city upper west coast trip soon bust here's a lil' teaser.

* 'the reggie' biscuits & gravy masterpiece at pine state - enuf said
* gourmet (i'm talking fancy) meal at painted lady in oregon's wine country
* year round waterfall (thanks for the rec' yen!)
* bite of seattle
* distefano winery in woodingville, wa
* dim sum at ssw in vancouver
* izakaya dinner by robson st

This was the 'reggie'. So good but so bad for you!

Gnocchi from Painted Lady. Seriously to die for.....if I had to choose one thing to eat for the rest of my life - this is it (the runner up would be spicy nacho doritos)

Bad food in Mendocino

So here is a story of the worst 150 dollars ever spent. This restaurant known as St. orress in Gualala, ca(middle of nowhere)
produced one of the oddest meals i have ever had.

Starters $15/piece
The mushroom ravioloi(their signature dish that the waiters have to fight over............right...............) this dish was o.k
The crab cakes (Honestly I would have to say the Van Kamps fish sticks are a bit better). Zero stars for the taste and 5 stars for the nice squiggly designs on the plates.

Prix Fixe Menu 45 bucks
Hot fennel soup (Safeway soup will smash on this crap).
The worst thing of all was after serving us our appetizers and soup, they gave us this watermelon aruguale goatcheese
thing. This think looked great, but then after eating all these different hot/cold items and 7 wineries, this cooling effect the watermelon gave us made us want to puke. Both of went to the restoom after this but luckily nothing bad happened. However ,
flushing these toilets were extremely weird. They have a tubes that go along te back of the toilet and a big white porcelain box.
We then found out after much investigation that u must pull this giant lever to flush the toilet(made me wanna puke even more).
We come back to our seats and we get ready for our entrees. She got filet mignon and i got lamb. Both were overcooked and lacked much flavor. I returned my dish. The worst thing is that the chef pairs her meat entrees with carrots, baby tomatoes, eggplant, and corn bits. This was not a vegetarian dish. I don't think there could be a worst combination of food here. At least give me a slop of garlic maches potatoes or some type of rissotto.

We both had about two bites of our food and the rest went into a brown bax that was heated the next morning for breakfast.
Got the bill, paid 150 bucks and never felt so happy to leave this shithole.

Fresh Mex

Oooohhhhhh boy let me tell you this was some good taco's! We got some good organic chicken drumsticks from trader joes for a buck/pound. Deboned the meat and did that special spicy mexican rub. She pan fried the chicken until it was slightly charred on the outside yet still juicy and flavorful. Fried up some hash browns for texture(similar to aldaberto's in sac for the cali burrito) and made a fresh guacomole with cilantro jalapenos tomatoes and onions(delicious!!!!!!). Finish everything off with some pico de gallo and some lettuce on the outside. This was one great taco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will soon be opening up a healthy taco stand. Please stay tuned for details about our future cart.

Best Regards,
Timtizzle after eating Blingers taco's

All Clad to Call My Own

What a nice surprise! It's an early bday surprise from my big sister. And get this it's not just one pan (which is a hefty gift in and of itself) but an entire sparkling, stainless steel set. I'm now a proud owner of a 10" frypan, 2qt sauce pan, 3qt sauce pan, 3qt saute pan, and 6 qt stock pot! Oh yea! My sister got a free gift for buying the set at Sur La Table, so she also gave me an All Clad non-stick griddle pan and apron too. The free matching stainless steel utensils will be arriving in the mail.

It's one of my favorite - if not my absolute fav - presents I've ever received. Thanks Sis!!
This opens up a whole world of dishes to try ;)
